SNURK

SNURK is more than beautiful duvet covers or garments. It is also a sustainable philosophy, a creative making process and a club of enthusiastic, hard-working people from the Netherlands and Portugal. Peggy, founder of SNURK, came up with the idea of printing a picture of an unfolded cardboard box on a soft, cotton duvet cover to raise awareness of the increasing number of homeless young people and to raise money for their shelter. "Sleep under a cardboard box and help a homeless youth get out from under it." In 2007, Peggy van Neer and her husband Erik van Loo turned this idea into reality. This was the beginning of SNURK. Much of the proceeds went (and still go) to Stichting Zwerfjongeren Nederland. Already € 99,150 has been donated until 2023.

Sustainable production

Today, SNURK is sold in more than 1,500 places worldwide, both in physical shops and online. The office and warehouse in Amsterdam now employ 16 people, including Erik and Peggy. Here, they continue to design beautiful photo prints for use on sustainable textiles. For this, they use only organic cotton produced sustainably in Portugal. They not only create beautiful, imaginative prints for bedding, but also for loungewear. All SNURK creations are made with their own hand, their own camera and in-house photoshop.

Sustainable cotton

SNURK works exclusively with percal and percaline cotton. Thus, all duvet covers with a print have a minimum of 160 cotton threads per square inch. The duvet covers with plain colours even have 220 threads (percal). This means that the duvet covers have a much higher weave density than the average cotton bedding (100 threads per inch). The cotton used by SNURK is therefore more durable, softer and more supple. In addition, the yarns are combed to prevent impurities and fluff.

GOTS certified

All the cotton SNURK works with is GOTS-certified organic cotton. Cotton with GOTS certification meets the strictest standards for organic fibres worldwide. It also shows that the entire production process, from fibre to finished product, is as clean as possible. SNURK therefore works as efficiently as possible during the production process. Any leftover fabric is used to make something beautiful.
