Narwal

"We are fans of everything that lives. Without a doubt. But we have a soft spot for the very special, impressive and extraordinary animals on our beautiful globe. One of these mythical creatures is the narwhal, once described by National Geographic as the most eccentric animal in the world. A kind of whale, but with a large ivory horn on its head. The unicorn of the ocean, so to speak. Mythical, spectacular and a bit crazy. In a good way. That's what you'll find in our collection." - Narwhal.

The story behind Narwhal

The founder of Narwal, Rick, was born and raised in Rotterdam, which is also known as the largest port in Europe. This has contributed to the fact that water has always played a big role in his life. His journey around the world eventually led him to Cape Town, where he discovered his passion for swimwear. The beaches, the landscape, the relaxed people and of course the creative style of the tribes inspired him. As a seasoned Rotterdamer, it was all a long way from his bed, but it was something that made him want to design his own swimwear for his friends and family. Eventually, Rick decided to take the next step, and so Narwal's first collection was born. Narwhal swimwear is for those who don't want to take life too seriously. Welcome to the good life!

Sustainable mission

Narwhal uses two different sustainable fabrics to make its swimwear. One fabric is recycled polyester made from plastic bottles. The other fabric is a blend of polyester, spandex and coconut shells with a minimum of 37% coconut fibre. These high quality fabrics are made locally in Asia and have all the important certificates. These certificates are issued by a Dutch company, so Narwal can be sure that the authenticity has been verified.

Once the production process is complete, the swim trunks are shipped to Europe by boat. Why by boat? Because this has the least impact on overall greenhouse gas emissions. Narwal also opts for the most sustainable option when it comes to packaging and labelling. For example, all mandatory labels and stickers are made from recycled material. They also make a conscious decision to package the swim trunks "clean" so that material consumption is as low as possible.

Working conditions

Narwal does not only care about sustainability, but also about the working conditions of those who make the swim trunks. The factory where the swimwear is made is located in Guangzhou, China. Here, workers receive fair wages and normal working days and hours. The factory also has the latest equipment to ensure worker safety. All of this results in certification to the highest standards of the labour market.

Functions of the swim trunks
The swim trunks are not only made of sustainable materials (recycled plastic or coconut fibres), but also have a practical hidden key pocket that can be closed with a zip and where you can store your valuables. In addition, the swim trunks are made of quick-drying, soft, stretchy and breathable material with a stretchy inner short made of high-quality mesh.
