Lee

Lee is the iconic American denim brand, which stands for a casual lifestyle. The brand was founded in 1889 by Henry David Lee in Kansas, USA. For more than 130 years, Lee has been making the best casual denimwear for both men and women. A good basic for your wardrobe. All types of trousers can be found there: wide-legged, straight, skinny or flared jeans. They are all tough and durable trousers made of high quality. What once started with work trousers and jackets has now grown into broad clothing collections for everyone. Besides the well-known jeans, at Lee you can also shop for t-shirts, jumpers, jackets, skirts and accessories. In 2021, Lee released another collection together with fashion giant H&M. The nineties vibe collection is also sustainably produced, using recycled cotton and sustainable man-made fibres. Every day, Lee continues to innovate in order to create the toughest items for the brand's loved ones. And: we even have Lee to thank for the zip in our trousers.

Lee in the 20th century

As you probably knew, Lee jeans have an S-shaped decorative stitching on the back pocket. This was first done in 1944 and has been a standard pattern on the trousers ever since. It is a reference to the old comic 'Long Horn'.

After the Second World War, men started to see trousers less and less as protective workwear and more as casual clothing. Women started wearing jeans later, around the 1960s. Throughout the years, jeans became more and more popular. Now we all have them hanging in our wardrobes, in all shapes, sizes and colours.

For a World That Works

Lee launched a fully compostable collection in 2020. Many clothing brands are trying to make their clothes more and more sustainable. This is certainly necessary, as the clothing industry is the second most polluting industry on earth. To do its bit, the jeans brand comes out with a collection that is completely biodegradable. The 'Back to the Future' collection is made of compostable linen. Just remove the buttons and the trousers are ready to be thrown away.

The 'For a World That Works' project includes other sustainable campaigns. Lee is also working on reducing their water usage. The production of one pair of jeans consumes about 8,000 litres of water. Thanks to the Crystal Clear dyeing process, the jeans brand can reuse a lot of water. This way, they save a lot of water. With the new Indigood dyeing process with foam, no water is even needed anymore. Lee can make extra trousers without polluting the world.
