Creative design philosophy

Konges Sløjd was founded on the firm belief that all children deserve the best. From toys and clothing to furniture and accessories, the brand's entire collection is made with love for children and the planet. Konges Sløjd does not take this responsibility lightly and is constantly developing and improving its sustainability principles. The brand's design philosophy is influenced by the diverse and colourful streets of Copenhagen, where you will find Konges Sløjd's office nestled between classical monuments and the home of the royal family. From here they draw, invent and design for all aspects of daily life with children. They always do this with a humorous eye for detail and a touch of childlike imagination.

From the cellar into the world

All parents will recognise the ambition that drove Emilie Konge to start her own children's brand: They want to offer their children the best. Even if they don't always deserve it when they're stomping and screaming through the supermarket. In 2014, Emilie set up her 1-person production facility in a basement in a then less affluent part of Copenhagen. Here she sat in front of the sewing machine when her son was asleep. When she had finished her first product, Emilie turned to a then new marketing platform: Instagram. Here, her handmade cloud mobile became an instant hit. Consequently, Emilie found many other parents who also had a need for responsibly produced children's toys without harmful materials. Customers queued up and shop owners contacted her out of the blue. Even before Emilie had a proper production, Konges Sløjd was a great success.

Today Konges Sløjd has a large and vibrant online community and a growing global retail network: more than 1500 retailers in 92 countries. Konges Sløjd has long outgrown its original basement and now lives in a classic 750-square-foot flat down the street from the Royal Family. The one-man army has grown into a passionate, talented and international team of more than 40 people. The mobiles moved into a 4000 square metre warehouse along with all the following collections. Although the atmosphere is buzzing and ideas fly through the air when you enter the office, Konges Sløjd places great emphasis on creating the best working environment for the entire team. Because at the end of the day, Konges Sløjd is not about products, but about the children they are made for and the people who designed them.

Ecological production

Konges Sløjd's ambitions are high, but also realistic. When you lead a life with children, sometimes the simple solution is the only solution. Today, the brand is taking the necessary steps to create a fully sustainable and modern design company. Not to make a trendy campaign, but to really challenge everyone and create a sustainable future. They want to go beyond certifications and fees. Konges Sløjd strives to become a brand with a positive impact and to give back a part of everything they have to the planet, to the children and to the future.

Although using organic materials is nothing new for Konges Sløjd, they were finally able to validate their GOTS certification in 2021. But that's not all the brand has to offer. They have developed a new sustainable design strategy to explore greener materials and production cycles.

From the beginning, Konges Sløjd have relied on a close relationship of trust with their suppliers. This guarantees the best quality products and that they are manufactured under good working conditions. Based on Konges Sløjd's Code of Conduct, they aim to build sustainable relationships to improve their impact on the environment and raise social standards throughout their supply chain. They also collaborate with various NGOs that work for the welfare of children.
