Can a sandal protect your toes? Answering that question meant the creation of KEEN's Newport sandal in 2003 and the birth of a whole new category of footwear. This now iconic sandal has led adventures, connected communities and inspired people of all ages, genders, races and abilities to get outside and get moving. It has become a global symbol of travel, outdoor fun and innovative footwear.

For a brand that was founded with a toe-protecting sandal, it was only natural to evolve into safety footwear. So in 2010, KEEN Utility work shoes were produced. Designed to allow workers to work tirelessly every day. KEEN Utility work boots keep these workers safe and comfortable while they work, so they can keep doing what they do. Day in, day out.

Portland

In 2006, KEEN moved from Alameda, California to Portland, Oregon, a city known for its bridges, bikes, forests and shoes. Portland provided the perfect backdrop for innovation and a pioneering culture. For the headquarters, where KEEN has been operating since 2012, the brand had ecological goals for the renovation of five floors covering 60,000 feet. By reusing almost all existing materials in the old building, the renovation was completed with only one waste container.
