Bob Gamm

In 1979 Bob Gamm, passionate jogger, architect and founder of KangaROOS, invented and designed the running shoe with a small zippered pocket that was big enough to hold your keychain and a few coins while running. As a jogger, he found the rattling of keys and the clinking of coins in his pocket very annoying, which is why he introduced these multifunctional training shoes. In this way, Bob Gamm hoped to make the lives of runners a lot more pleasant during their runs.

KangaROOS' origin

The brand logo with the kangaroo also originates from the early days of KangaROOS. Bob Gamm came up with the name KangaROOS for his shoes, because during running, the kangaroo makes big jumps and never looks back, only forward. These were qualities that Bob Gamm as a runner liked to identify with. In addition, of course, the kangaroo has its own pouch, and thus "The Original Shoes With Pockets" came to life. In the mid-80s, KangaROOS quickly gained notoriety within the American sports scene. Bob Gamm's vision ensured that KangaROOS belonged to one of the top five performance brands in the United States, and at the same time, the popularity of the brand grew rapidly in Europe.

DynaCoil

At one point, KangaROOS decided to embrace technical innovations such as DynaCoil, which is now integrated into the retro insoles of historic running styles. Bob Gamm opened a 10,000-square-metre KangaROOS laboratory dedicated to testing athletic footwear at the University of Illinois in the United States. In 1986, in collaboration with NASA engineers, the brand developed DynaCoil, a 3D woven coil fabric technology to be used in trainers, especially for the serious runner.
