GOT BAG

The brand GOT BAG started collecting plastic from the ocean in 2016 to recycle and turn it into bags and backpacks. Since then, they have slowly but surely been able to increase the capacity of their clean-up programme and with it the amount of plastic they collect each month. The material they use at GOT BAG is called Ocean Impact Plastic. This material consists of plastic that they actively collect from the ocean and the immediate surroundings of their collection points, such as mangrove areas, rivers or even places where the plastic ends up directly after use. This measure prevents plastic from ending up in the ocean due to a lack of waste management infrastructure.

Ocean Impact Plastic

At Ocean Impact Plastic, not only PET is recycled for the production of GOT BAG. All other plastics collected are also used for appropriate recycling solutions to prevent them from (re)entering the ocean. Plastic bags must be recycled into secondary raw materials for use in other products. PET is recycled into fabric for GOT BAG backpacks. Residual materials are particularly difficult to recycle due to coatings and/or adhesives. They are used as substitutes for fossil fuels in energy production.

Waterproof bags

As part of the GOT BAG clean-up programme off the north coast of Java, Indonesia, more than 2,000 local participants collect plastic from coastal waters, mangrove forests and the delta area of nearby rivers. The Ocean Impact Plastic collected in this way no longer poses a threat to the oceans. The PET portion of the Ocean Impact Plastic is cleaned, sorted and pressed into the raw material for GOT BAG products. The material is further processed into fabrics for the backpacks and bags, with a waterproof coating on the inside and an additional water and dirt repellent finish on the outside.
