FILA

FILA was founded in 1911 in the small village of Biella, Italy. Although today the brand is best known for its trainers and sportswear, FILA began as a textile manufacturer for local trade. After a few years, the brand began to target the international market, and in 1973 FILA started producing sportswear. The clothing became especially popular with tennis players, reaching its peak in the 1980s and 1990s. The sportswear brand got a boost when tennis player Björn Borg started wearing clothes with the recognisable 'F' logo.

Grant Hill

FILA also made clothes and shoes suitable for other sports. In 1994, the brand partnered with basketball player Grant Hill after he was selected to play for Detroit. On the court, he wore FILA shoes and several variants of his own model, the Grant Hill, were even designed. The model was very popular among many trainer wearers and still the Grant Hill evokes nostalgic feelings.

Hip-hop and R&B

In the 1980s and 1990s, FILA also became popular among hip-hop and R&B artists. In the 1980s, tracksuits, and thus FILA tracksuits, were first worn as casual outfits. This trend was reinforced by the music videos of artists such as LL Cool J and Run DMC. The Grant Hill trainers immediately became popular on the West Coast when Tupac Shakur wore a pair at the time to promote his new album 'All Eyez On Me'. This album featured some of Tupac's biggest hits, including 'California Love'.

Vegan trainers

Just a few years ago, FILA changed its strategy by re-releasing some classic models. The comeback of the popular Disruptor was a big hit and fitted perfectly with the dad shoe trend. FILA continues to release nostalgic clothes and design innovative products after all these years. For example, the brand also produced a number of vegan trainers, showing that they consider innovation and sustainability as important as design and quality.
