Umbra began when graphic designer and co-founder Paul Rowan needed a sunshade in his flat. As he could not find one to suit his taste and price, he created his own screen. At the time, Paul was working with childhood friend Les Mandelbaum. Together they started to transform everyday objects into modern designs for everyone. This was the moment that Umbra was born! Umbra means 'shadow' in Latin. Today, Umbra is sold in over 120 countries and the brand has offices in Europe, Canada, the United States, Brazil and China. Together with its international team of designers, Umbra is known for creating products that are original, modern, casual, functional and affordable.
