The history of PUMA

PUMA is a German sports brand, headquartered in Herzogenaurach in Germany (state of Bavaria). The company was founded in 1948 by Rudolf Dassier as "PUMA Schuhfabrik Rudolf Dassler".

Puma AG was created after a family quarrel between the brothers Adolf and Rudolf Dassler. Together they ran the Gebrüder Dassler Sportschuhfabrik (Gebroeders Dassler Sportshoe Factory) from the 1920s until just after the Second World War. As a result of a family feud, cooperation was no longer possible after the war and in 1948 Rudolf started his own business: he founded Puma AG, while his brother renamed Gebrüder Dassler Sportschuhfabrik into Adidas. Both companies are located in Herzogenaurach, so the city is still split into two camps. The two-part film The Dassler brothers: Adidas versus Puma is about the first fifty years of both companies.
