Moleskine

Moleskine is an Italian brand that has a wide range of products, including notebooks, diaries, address books, sketchbooks, stationery and apps. But not only does this company have said products, the brand also offers fine bags for safely transporting all your belongings. These backpacks and bags are made of fine materials that ensure ultimate comfort.

But what is so distinctive about the brand? The notebooks are very popular and have a traditional background. These notebooks form the basis of the brand. By default, the notebooks have an elastic band around them and all have a ribbon that serves as a bookmark. In addition, each notebook has a fold-out storage space at the back. The paper is standard cream-coloured with rounded corners and is made of acid-free paper.

History of Moleskine

It all started with the company Modo&Modo SpA, which made similar notebooks. This company went out of business in France in 1997, after which Moleskine took over the company under a new name on 1 January 2007. The brand got its new name from the 1986 book 'The Songlines', which was written by English novelist and travel writer Bruce Chatwin. In this book, Chatwin writes about how he used the notebooks during his travels. In it, he tells about a Parisian trader in office supplies, who told him that the former manufacturer of the notebooks had closed down after the death of the owner.

Moleskine is the successor to the notebooks used by great names in art history in the 19th and 20th centuries, such as those of writers and artists. Think of Ernest Hermingway, Pablo Picasso and Vincent van Gogh. All of them used the well-known Moleskine notebooks, which at the time were still produced by Modo&Modo SpA. These notebooks would therefore continue a tradition for Moleskine. The company became such a success that by 2008, the brand was already selling in 14,000 shops in 53 different countries.

Manufacturing

The notebooks are manufactured through collaboration with different countries, each of which contributes a little. For example, the notebooks are designed in Italy but printed and bound in China, and the water colour paper is supplied by a French manufacturer.  In Turkey, since 2008, some articles are produced in a larger format.
