Marc Jacobs

At the age of 15, the American fashion designer Marc Jacobs worked at a clothing boutique, Charivari, in New York. After this time, he went to work for Parsons, where he also started designing himself. He started selling hand-knitted jerseys. In the years that followed, Jacobs worked with Robert Duffy and together they founded Jacobs Duffy Designs.

Jacobs designed his first Marc Jacobs line in 1986. It was clear that he knew what he was doing; in 1987 he received the Perry Ellis Award, the highest honour you can get in the fashion industry. At the time, Jacobs was the youngest designer ever to be named for this special award.

A few years later, in 1994, he launched his first menswear collection. He also started working as a creative director at Louis Vuitton and came into contact with big names such as Kanye West, Richard Prince and Stephen Sprouse. While launching his second line, he also launched an exclusive line of sunglasses.
